Grace: God's Answer to Racial Tension

Grace: God's Answer to Racial Tension

See the real problem. Embrace the real solution

I know that I may have already ruffled some feathers with my title. I assure you it is not my intention to ruffle feathers. I simply want to get the conversation a bit more out in the open in the context of the gospel. Racial tensions are at a high in the good ol’ U.S.A. Some people feel oppressed. Some feel accused. Some feel ignored. Some feel abused.

Grace, Grace, and more Grace. Too Much Grace?

Grace, Grace, and more Grace. Too Much Grace?

Is It Possible?

Grace. Grace. Grace. Grace. Grace. Too much grace? Is it possible to focus too much on grace? What about all the other parts of Christianity? What about discipleship?

Trouble in Gospel Land: Why all the Confusion?

Trouble in Gospel Land: Why all the Confusion?

Five reasons people are confused

I have had a great variety of conversations with people regarding the confusion that is occurring over the gospel of grace. Some people quickly acknowledged the confusion, others didn’t see a big problem with the church’s understanding of grace, and still others have claimed that the real confusion exists not in the gospel but in so-called grace teachers’ view on the place of the Law in the Christian walk. The majority of people that I’ve spoken to fall into the first category, especially after they understand what Christ really accomplished for His children. On numerous occasions I have heard people say, “Why didn’t I get it? It’s so clear! And obvious!” On one occasion an elderly gentleman came up to me after a message I gave and said, “I have been in church my entire life and I never heard anyone explain to me how forgiven I really was.” As you can imagine his eyes were happy and there was new life in his attitude.

The Reality of Church Planting

The Reality of Church Planting

The highs, lows, and "what the hecks?" of church planting

Church planting is hard, messy, sloppy, fun, exciting, and intolerable. If that doesn’t get you excited then this might: it’s also unpredictable and frustrating. One Sunday you could have a great number of people, the next Sunday you could have two or...zero. Then you’re left with the probing question: what did we do wrong?

Glimpses of God: Exploring the Accuracy of the Old Testament Depiction of God's Character

Glimpses of God: Exploring the Accuracy of the Old Testament Depiction of God's Character

Is the Old Testament inspired and inerrant?

An interesting doctrine has surfaced within the church today. It’s by no means new. Ecclesiastes makes it clear that there truly is nothing new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9). But, as with all doctrines and issues, they resurface according to the prevailing movements within the religious culture of their day. The issue is over the inspiration and inerrancy of the Old Testament. Specifically, that the Old Testament depictions of God are the result of human error and that Jesus is the only true depiction of God.

Alive

Alive

Your New Identity in Christ

Something radical happened when you believed in Christ: you became alive. This may sound weird to you because you have been alive since your birth. But this is a different type of “alive”. This is a life that exists in a far deeper place than mere physical life. It is spiritual life, and spiritual life is where your identity is found.
